Sean Cowan founded Sean Michael Design in 2007 with a mission to create sophisticated, modern environments that are livable, enduring and authentic in every sense.  Trendy, over-decorated concepts take a back seat to calm, meaningful spaces that allow architecture and carefully chosen furnishings and materials to take clear focus.  With an accomplished eye and informal approach to the design process, he collaborates with his clients to create spaces that are truly personal.

Cowan’s passion for authenticity and original design led him to open VERN + VERA along with his partner, Eric Silverstrim in 2014.  The store’s mission of curating a collection of fine vintage pieces that embody clean, modern lines as well as sculptural statement pieces has received much attention in the Chicago Design Community and has become a trusted vintage resource for Interior Designers worldwide.  

As a former New Yorker, Cowan continues projects in NYC as well as Chicago and Michigan.  His work has appeared in several publications including Modern Luxury Interiors Magazine, Luxe Magazine, House Beautiful and Chicago Spaces.  He was named a “Next Wave” designer by House Beautiful Magazine and received the “Rising Star” award for interior design presented by the Fashion Group International.

Above all, Cowan values the relationships he builds with his clients and the influence his work will have on their daily lives.
